Tasting notes

Neal Martin, vinous.com, February 2025 93

As I wrote during primeur, the 2022 Les Cruzelles has plenty of fruit on the nose, especially following the more tightly coiled La Chenade. A black cherry note, a touch of cassis and a sprig of wild mint come through with time. This is quite exuberant and captivating. The palate is medium-bodied with a powerful entry that lacquers the mouth. Saturated tannins and fine acidity create a luxuriant Lalande-de-Pomerol with immense purity toward the finish. This delightful, slightly hedonistic wine from the Durantou stable should be tempered by time. 2028 - 2050

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, February 2025 94

A dense and flavorful Lalande de Pomerol with plums and opulence as well as firm and velvety tannins that give it length and intensity. Medium- to full-bodied with plenty of fruit and creamy texture. Merlot-driven. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink after 2027.

William Kelley, Wine Advocate (June 2023 ), June 2023 90/92

More serious and structured than La Chenade, the 2022 Les Cruzelles unwinds in the glass with aromas of cherries and blackberries mingled with hints of licorice and mint. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, it's built around powdery structuring tannins that gently assert themselves on the finish.

Lisa Perrotti-Brown MW, The Wine Independent, May 2023 89/91+

Les Cruzelles 2022 is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc and it has a deep garnet-purple color. It requires a little swirling to unlock notes of licorice, tilled soil, and Sichuan pepper, over a core of plum preserves, baked blackberries, and raspberry leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is soft, elegantly styled, and graceful, with just enough fruit and a savory finish.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, March 2025 93

A vintage that captures the spirit of this beautiful wine. Great lift and kick of sweet baking spice, chalky tannins that give texture alongside a kick of salinity and crushed rocks, soy and cocoa-dusted almonds, fennel, great stuff. 50% new oak, less vintage impact than its sibling estate La Chenade.

James Lawther MW, JancisRobinson.com, May 2023 16.5

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Cask sample.Purer and more refined than La Chenade with added complexity and length. Red-fruit aroma. Some sweetness on the mid-palate (oak?) but fresh and crunchy on the finish. (JL) 14.6%Drink 2028– 2040

Neal Martin, vinous.com, May 2023 92/94

The 2022 Les Cruzelles was picked between 1 and 12 September and matured in 50% new oak. This has plenty of fruité on the nose: small red cherries, redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, a touch of cedar in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with wonderful definition and mineralité , dark fruit, hints of black tea and spices, really harmonious and sappy on the finish. Possibly the best Les Cruzelles that I have tasted at this stage and sure to be an unbeatable value-for-money. 2028-2050

James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com, April 2023 93/94

A solid red with blackberry, chocolate, walnut and hazelnut. Medium to full body. Smily face here, thanks to the ripe seeds.

Jane Anson, JaneAnson.com, May 2023 93

More clay in the soils here and there is a lovely balance, fleshy in texture and high impact, but with a ton of interest, dark deep chocolate, gunsmoke, aniseed, fennel, black cherry, lovely fresh acidities. Harvest September 1 to 12, 28hl/h, 50% new oak, Noemie Durantou winemaker.
